This was a project considering the progress of medical science and the changes in practice and opinion it has undergone as our understanding of the human body as developed. I looked to landmarks in treatment and surgical techniques such as the first heart transplant and soon was drawn to the more unusual, interesting and even taboo eras of scientific study. The main sources of interest were the Galvanic experiments of Giovanni Aldini and Andrew Ure following the discovery of elecrodermal response in living (and dead) creatures and the fictional response to these stages in history like Mary Shelleys 'Frankenstein'.
My outcome after six weeks was this Frankestein style doll with magnetic attatchable and detatchable limbs, and a screw on head that references back to the animal head transplants carried out by Vladimir Demikhov and Robert White. 2008.
